Farewell South Devon College

I started working at South Devon College in January 2006. Today I leave but be assured I will not forget all the laughs I had, prospectuses I carried, balloons I inflated, Open Evenings I worked, HE fairs I travelled to, posters i put up, press releases i wrote and of course the £2 lunches i had at the International Cafeteria.

Working in the Marketing Department was enriching, not only because i now have a qualification in 'professional gossiping' but because i really did learn alot. Oracle and Princess, what can i say except WHAT great girls you are. M and PhotoshopCop it was great meeting you. Keep in touch. To my new found friends, see you in South Africa for your FREE safari trip.

Pat, if you reading this then instinctively you are proof reading this and cringing. So if there are any mispelt words and non corporate writing...I will improve. Thanks for everything.

It has been a pleasure to work with all of you at South Devon College. Best of luck for the future.

Take care and if you see me begging in the streets of London, throw me a £1.

Just Jersey

Only a 30 minute flight from Exeter airport (as on the map), Jersey is close to France; in fact so close that given the right weather conditions you can easily see the French drinking red wine on their beaches. It is an interesting island, given its small size. All along the south coast, both east and west, long yellow beaches are exposed by the huge 40 foot tidal difference. The north side of the island is made up of high, steep, jagged cliffs with dense green vegetation. The west coast beach of St Ouen's had a good surf on a pushing tide, so a little of my time was spent there. I met a guy and his girlfriend there. Thom and Joanne if you reading this...enjoy your little slice of paradise.

The island is divided into 12 smaller parishes, each being a tightly knitted community with something exclusive on offer to the tourists. I spent a day cycling around the island and from what i saw, tourists outnumber residents 3:1. The Jersey War Tunnels were great, if you interested in history and the World Wars. Plenty to do: clubs, pubs and wayward parties. Scenery abounds and people are great.

I stayed with Lucy and Hayley, Lucy's mom. If you two are reading this, many thanks again for a awesome time (even cleaning the shit out of your horses stable). I must be honest though, although i miss you two and my little Jersey home, its Gilbert who i pine for. What i would do to hear that unbelievable dog-grunting again. Make your own minds up about how handsome lil Gilly is but one thing is for sure...that dog makes the funniest noises ive ever heard.

All who drove me, drank with me, surfed with me, directed me and fed me, MANY THANKS and take care.

Peace out.

A braai with the British

I have been working at South Devon College for the last six months and have made good friends. It was suggested that we have a farewell BBQ for me as I am on my way soon, but i quickly realised that this was just an excuse for everyone to have a couple of cheeky Sunday drinks and have someone available (preferably a South African) to toss the meat. I represented South Africa well and tossed not only meat but my name too. My first meeting with the dad was him helping me out a bush that sprung out from nowhere and grabbed me from behind. I didnt quit the cider as my earlier Newquay story claimed i would. Fun all around though and one thousand and three thank-you's to Anna and Jogqi who slept most of the day!

Lifes a Beach

Hi everyone, here is the latest...

Story 1: Newquay
Last weekend we drove across to Newquay for the 'Run to the Sun' festival. Weather was not at its best so we actually 'Ran to the Rain'. This resulted in us spending all our time and $$$ in the old faithful Walkabout. I learnt a valuable lesson there...DO NOT drink pints of cider, and only cider for the entire day and evening. I now know what a pickled roll-mop must feel like. Friday night therefore left me with a slight handicap. We also met some awesome people there. 'M', funny English girl, Dobby and Dave if you reading this, you guys were great fun - get in touch (leave a comment). We surfed a little on saturday but i decided to get out right after a pollar bear bit my feet off and penguins ate out my eyes! So yip, you guessed right Walkabout. Nites out were jam packed but a true English experience. Messed about for most of the time had a few more surfs. Also completely developed amnesia and forgot my lesson on Cider drinking. This time I took it a step further and drank snakebites (gummy-berry juice for big people) for a night...then slipped into a mild coma.

Story 2: A day at the beach
Back home in SA a day at the beach is a normal thing; not much to get excited about. Here thats not true so when myself, Katie and Joan went down to the local beach for a day of sun and sand I took it upon myself to be a true tourist and snap some photos...not that we were posing or anything. 1 of the photos is my fisrt ever catch of mackerel. They tasted delicious on the 'barbeque' (whatever that is. Its braai damnit). Believe it, i have a tan again and no longer the same pasty shade as my ass. Of course there is always the photo of us enjoying a fine Devon Ale 2.
Keep looking...next to come is my visit to Jersey Islands.
Hope everyone is loving life as much as I am.
Keep moving like its marvellous.
